Covered:
We went through the specifications needed for the 2018 Science Olympiad Tower construction
Discussed the "Winning Ratio". Basic Math to discuss if the Ratio should be higer or lower to win
Compared the dimensions to real life objects, using rules, dimes etc, to get a sense of the scale and magnitudes involved
Sunny introduced the team to elements of the modelling software
-
What are the differnt 3D Planes, how to identify them
-
How to construct Joints at a specific location
-
How to convert to metric units for the S/W
-
How to create members

Covered:
Rohan and Gus (Highschool Coaches ) built a straw tower to dimensions to help the younger kids visualize the dimenstions and a possible structure for the tower.
The kids were given metric graph paper and asked to draw a scaled down version of the tower.
Each came up with their own design.
We then started modelling a design to scale in the software.
Here are some pictures of the kids in action.
